FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How does the collecting and filtering of Acquamara impact on the environment? The volumes of water collected for Acquamara are very small and as are therefore insignificant in comparison to the volume of the Atlantic Ocean. Removing raw seawater for Acquamara and the filtering process uses very little energy. Packaging and distribution of the product uses similar amounts of energy to many other bottled products. Packaging will be recycled and Acquamara will find its way back to the sea eventually. We have commissioned an ethical carbon trading company to measure our carbon footprint and we will offset all of our CO2 emissions.
What are the health implications of including Acquamara in my diet? We have been warned of the importance of reducing salt in our diets in order to reduce blood pressure but there have been discussions regarding the validity of these studies (link). However, what Acqumara can provide is an alternative to using processed salt and eating processed food from which we get 76% of our salt intake. Acquamara is ‘good’ as opposed to ‘bad’ salt that has not been stripped of natural minerals and nutrients. ‘Salt is an essential element in your diet, and it is important that you get the highest quality just as with any other nutrient'. (link). Using Acquamara will enhance the healthy food you eat making it easier to reduce the processed food and salt you consume.
What does the filtering process consist of? Raw seawater contains suspended material, some of which is living. Acquamara is mechanically filtered to 5 micrometres and UV irradiated to help remove the solids and to inactivate the remaining living (bacteria) components.
Why is this sea water better than going to the beach with a bucket? Research shows that the water off the coast of the Hebridean Islands is the cleanest in Europe. The OSPAR commission show that the unpopulated region of the Hebridean Islands makes this water clean and fresh. Most people who live by the sea reside in densely populated areas with high levels of industry that pollute the sea. Acquamara also goes through a filtering process (see above) that further purifies the fresh seawater. In short, the processes we use and the seawater we have access to means that this is a high quality product that can’t be replaced by seawater collected in a bucket from anywhere else in the UK.
